Wedding Zen "The Myth of the Perfect Wedding"

"Sometimes our longing for the "perfect" wedding leads to frustration. We invest so much in the idea of the "the pefect day" that we imbue it with the power to give and take away our happiness.

No day can be perfect (although it can be perfectly wonderful). By trying to hard to make it so, we take all the life, joy, and spontaneity out of it, and we don't appreciate all teh moments leading up to it.

Remind yourself to notice the wonderful things that happen every day (even on the not-so-fantastic days). Each night, as you're going to sleep, think of at least five things- from silly to sublime- that happened during the day for which you're grateful. "

Wedding Zen- Who Are You?

I know.... it's that last thing you think of Weddings and Zen. However I purchased this cute little book at the dollar store of all places. Weddings are the time when you need to be calm and distress as much as possible. So I thought I would share some of the different exerts as I read along in the book.

"Who are you?
Pretend you don't have to please anyone but yourself. Do you really want to get married in a long white dress? Do I actually need ten bridesmaids? All in bubblegum pink taffeta? We're often encouraged - by parents, friends, even ourselves -to be someone we're not , especially on our wedding day. It can be exhausting. Zen helps us question the assumptions we hold about ourselves, ones that influence our wedding planning.

Take some time to really think about your wedding day. What's important to you? What images come up in your imagination? Make a list of those things...Go down the list and try to figure out which ones are truly important to you... You may want to try the following.

If I didn't have to please my ______ I would?
If I wasn't worried about what people would think I would?
If I only had myself to please I would?

By learning what you really want for your wedding-as opposed to what other people want or what society dictates-you'll begin the process of getting to know the real you. When you take nothing for granted, you gain an interesting perspective on your choices and how you live your life. "

Baby Face

Erin May Jewelry makes custom necklaces, bracelets and even earrings incorporating photos. I think they are just darling! I do feel it is better for a Grandmother than for a Bride... but I could see giving the Mother of the Bride a bracelet with a picture of her baby girl.

Engagement Party Favors

I was too busy having fun to remember to take pictures from the actual night of the party. However here are some pictures of our party favors we made. We purchase small wooden suit cases from our local craft store. We painted them to look like little leather suit cases with brass accidents and travel stamps. Inside we included a sepia toned picture of me and my fiance with the words "Aren't They Sweet Together". We also included green and brown jelly beans to match our green and brown color scheme.

Bridezillas put on your running shoes!

I'm sure all of my fellow brides are already aware of the annual Filenes Running of the Brides being held in Buckhead Friday. If I had a date set and knew where my wedding was going to be I would definitely be lined up with the best of them to get my designer gown at a steep discount. Good luck to those of you who will be there bright and early Friday morning!

In Honor of Caitlin

So in honor of my new friend and fellow bride. Here is a color board of purple! It is so pretty! I just love the idea of using lavender and hydrangeas. Think lavender soap for out of town guest, lavender sachets for the brides maids, even throwing dried lavender instead of bird seed or confetti are great ways to complement the color scheme in a unique way. Congrats Caitlin! I know you will have a beautiful wedding!
